About Big Ideas
After moving back to Edinburgh from the Continent, I decided that I needed a new outfit for Christmas. I looked around and could not find anything that I liked in my size. One day I went into a small shop in Morningside and the sales assistant met me at the door and said "Sorry, we do not stock your size". I went home and looked at all my clothes and discovered they were all German, so I decided on the spur of the moment to open my own shop for Plus Sizes.
This was 20 years ago and Big Ideas has not looked back. Many of our customers are regulars, who have been coming for years, so I continually have to move on and look for interesting and different styles. I love travelling, so it is no hardship for me to source goods from far-flung parts of the world. The feel of the garment is very important to me, so I always choose fabrics that look and feel good. This past year we had a wonderful new range made from bamboo in store for the first time.
Setting up a web shop is a new and scary venture for us, so we are only starting in a small way and, hopefully, learning as we go! If you have been to Big Ideas before, you will know that we have so many different designer clothing ranges that we cannot put them all on the website. Our motto is to find clothes that are different.
